We believe that homemade with ingredients like real butter, locally milled flour, good sour cream, like the Daisy Sour Cream we use, is much healthier than what Americans have been eating from big stores for way too long. Most of the mass produced baked goods in your local grocery store are filled with chemicals, oils, and trans fats (hydrogenated oils) that are unhealthy for us and bad for the earth. We want to be a part of the movement to improve the overall quality of what we eat both health wise and taste wise, and improve our environment. We want every bite you take of something from Mommom's Bakery to be like homemade, maybe even better.
Where food comes from makes a difference, and we are glad to see society start to move away from corporate farming and back to local farming, which is much better for us and our environment. We buy local produce as often as we can, and much of what we offer is seasonal for this reason. Also, we were a farming family for many generations, and this is so important to us that we put it in our logo - the flower. We know what good food is because we've grown it, cooked it, baked it, and eaten it for generations.
We always buy the best ingredients we can get our hands on, so that we can produce the best baked fare for you. The bakers in our family have always said, "you get out of it what you put in," when talking about the connection between ingredients and the final product. For example, we use Kerrygold butter and rendered leaf lard from pasture raised pigs in our pie crust, and organic coconut oil in our vegan pie crust. We can't get great-grandmom's fresh churned butter, and lard from the neighbor's farm anymore, but we can find the equivalent.
